Panthers’ Devin Funchess makes incredible leaping catch (Video)
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Devin Funchess made an incredible leaping 24-yard catch at the end of the first half.
The Carolina Panthers had trouble moving the ball in the first half with the Denver Broncos‘ defense locked in. With the pass rush getting to Newton the entirety of the first half, Newton had to start leaving the pocket more than normal and had to move around with his feet.
Toward the end of the first half, Newton made his best play with his feet yet, as the Broncos defense chased him around looking for a sack. Newton, deep in his own territory, let a huge pass fly on a broken play and was bailed out by rookie wide receiver Devin Funchess.
With Broncos defenders draped all over him, Funchess showed off a great vertical leap, going up and grabbing a 24-yard pass.
Funchess than showed off his ability to hold onto the football as he was ripped down to the ground. At this time of the year, it’s important for big players to step up and Funchess did that by bailing out his quarterback on the play.
The drive ended up stalling after another sack, but Funchess showed why he is a big target for Newton.
