Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho wants to stay in the Premier League.

The future of manager Jose Mourinho is still up in the air, and no team has scooped him up since his release from Chelsea FC. Mourinho had his first televised interview and shed some light on what he is thinking in terms of his future, and it sounds an awful lot like he wants to stay int he Premier League.

Mourinho talked fondly of London and the stability that it brought to his family, and his desire to stay for those reasons.

“When my kids were young, we could move and experience different countries and in my case, different clubs and different football, but there is a moment when they need some stability. They are 19 years old and 16 years old, and with university and their football, they need some stability and the family needs some stability,” Mourinho said, via Sky Sports.

“We made a decision three years ago to move back to London. It’s an amazing place to be and an amazing place for them to study and search their future and at the same time, for the family to be together so that was the decision. Also because I’ve experimented with English, Spanish and Italian football – the three top football leagues in the world.

“I always say that I need competition and I need competition every week and in Spain, I was at an amazing club but I had four matches a year: Barcelona v Real Madrid, Real Madrid v Barcelona and after that we’d win 4-0, 5-0, 4-1, 6-1.”

Mourinho really went on about the need for quality, and distinctly argued that the Premier League is far more difficult to contend in than La Liga.

“It was difficult to win because two monsters are together, but it was easy to win matches,” Mourinho said. “Difficult to win the league because you are competing against another team that also win and win and win like you do, so in the end I was champion in Spain with 100 points and I lost a league in Spain with 91 points.

“In England, you can win the leagues with 75 points, maybe less, so I needed competition. We decided to come to London and at the moment, I don’t have a job. I don’t know where football will take me because in football, you never know but for sure, as a family, our home will be in London.”

So if Mourinho wants to stay in England, the only top-tier club that seems like a potential landing spot is Manchester United. They’re not a London based team, but they’re the only club of the caliber he is used to coaching that could sign him. Manchester City signed Pep Guardiola, setting up the La Liga rivalry back up between Pep and Mourinho.

There are reports that Manchester United and Mourinho are having conversations, but current manager Louis van Gaal said he doesn’t believe the stories. He likely wouldn’t be privy to those talks anyways.

The other major London club, Arsenal, won’t likely part ways with Arsene Wenger. Tottenham Hotspur could be considered by Mourinho if he wants to stay in London, but the two haven’t been linked at all.

Everything seems to be pointing towards Mourinho joining Manchester United at the moment, or at least that seems like the job Mourinho is angling and holding out for.
