The Carolina Panthers may have grabbed momentum back with Kony Ealy forcing a fumble.

The Denver Broncos’ defense has been running circles around the Carolina Panthers. But at a critical juncture, Kony Ealy’s sack forced a fumble with plenty of time for Cam Newton to lead a comeback. It seemed like the Broncos were going to suffocate the life out of the Panthers offense, but this fumble recovery may have effectively turned the tides:

It couldn’t have come at a better time for Ealy, who recorded his third sack of the game.

The fumble recovery may have only led to a field goal, but at least they’re back within one possession. It’s been a poor showing for Cam Newton and his offense – their three turnovers so far have been a season high and Newton hasn’t gotten a single touchdown. But Denver’s defense is the best in the league for a reason and they’ve continually shut down the best quarterbacks in the league all season.

If the Panthers will want to win the game, they will have to make history while doing so. As noted by Pro Football Talk, the regular season MVP hasn’t always had the best of luck in the big game:

In order to win, the Panthers need another critical stop and Newton needs to get the offense firing again. Despite everything that has happened earlier, there is still lots of time left to win the game.
