Super Bowl power rankings: Which winner is the greatest?
50. 2012 Baltimore Ravens (SB XLVII)
The Super Bowl Champions that launched at least one questionable long-term contract, the 2012 Ravens are remembered in the canon of the Super Bowl for a number of reasons. For one, John Harbaugh led his team to the Super Bowl to do battle with his brother and the San Francisco 49ers on the league’s biggest stage. Moreover, they also won the Super Bowl where the power went out in the Superdome and caused a half-hour delay as they tried to come back on. All of that being said, this team wasn’t all of that impressive en route to climbing the mountain.
The 2012 Ravens just screamed above average and nothing more across the board. They were only the No. 10 offense in the NFL and were also only the 12th-ranked defense in the league in the twilight of the careers of Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. While the name-power was there, it was ultimately a big-time postseason performance that earned Joe Flacco and the Ravens a Super Bowl and earned the quarterback a big new contract, which is still up for debate about how smart of a move that was for Baltimore.
And remember, you can’t spell “Is Joe Flacco ELITE?” without spelling “Flacco” or “elite.”
