5. 1996 Green Bay Packers (SB XXXI)

Brett Favre is one of the icons of the NFL and his run with his Packers in the 1996 is undoubtedly one of the defining moments of his record-breaking and unforgettable career. As Favre and Mike Holmgren worked to prove that they were the best in the NFL for many years, they finally reached the top of the mountain in Super Bowl XXXI and did so without a shadow of a doubt about their greatness.

The Packers posted the best offense in the NFL in terms of scoring as Favre was aided by the likes of Dorsey Levens, Antonio Freeman and Keith Jackson in averaging 28.5 points. However, it was a dominant defense led by the late, great Reggie White that sometimes gets overlooked due to the brightness of Favre’s star as they also ranked atop the NFL in terms of scoring, making for the Packers having a monster point differential a 15.4 points per game.

As great teams tend to do, their dominance in the regular season continued into the playoffs as Favre and company rolled through the 49ers with a 21-point victory, took down the Panthers by 17 points in the NFC Championship game, and then toppled the Patriots by two scores in the big game. When you put it all together, they’re fully deserving of being called a top-five team.
