10. Super Bowl XX: Bears-Patriots

While it was a Super Bowl that featured what might be the best defensive unit in football, Super Bowl XX was one of the most boring Super Bowls ever. It was exciting for Bears fans and it’s nice to look back on as far as waxing poetic goes for football fans but there’s not a whole lot else to love about this Super Bowl.

Walter Payton is one of the best running backs ever and he failed to even score a single point. The defense owned the Patriots and handed it to quarterback Steve Grogan and the New England offense. It was about as poor a showing as they come for the Patriots and the Bears capitalized on playing a cinderella team in the big game. It’s hard to argue against the Bears defense being one of the best of all-time, but they played against soft pudding in the Super Bowl and really would have played against nothing scarier had the Patriots not made it to New Orleans that year.

Bears fans will defend this as the best moment of their lives, but that doesn’t mean it was exciting. The game was over before it even started and unless you’re a Bears fan there’s no real reason to block off an afternoon to re-watch this train wreck.
