7. Super Bowl VIII: Dolphins-Vikings

In Super Bowl VIII, the Miami Dolphins won their second straight championship with a 24-7 win over the Minnesota Vikings. For the Vikings, the game was especially ugly as their front four of Carl Eller, Gary Larsen, Alan Page and Jim Marshall were ran over by the trio of Larry Csonka, Jim Kiick, and Mercury Morris. Miami dominated the game and took a commanding 21-0 lead, something that Minnesota had absolutely no hope of overcoming.

Oddly enough, it would be the last time that the Dolphins has won a Super Bowl. The Vikings would get back the following year only to lose to Terry Bradshaw and the Pittsburgh Steelers, 16-6. Two years later, Minnesota once again reached the ultimate game but fell to the Oakland Raiders, 32-14. Since then, the Vikings have gotten only as far as the NFC title game.

This game was so boring, that it spurred plenty of talk about how to change the game to improve offense. Kickoffs were moved back to the 35-yard line from the 40, with hopes of field position improving and bigger plays on special teams. Minnesota is largely responsible for these changes, so we at least have a little something to take away from this game.
