Fantasy Football: What To Do With C.J. Anderson
By Dave Fuqua
What To Do With C.J. Anerson Next Year?
C.J. Anderson just brought to completion one of the more up and down fantasy football seasons in recent memory. Of course the reason it is so recent is because it was just this year, but the fact is that there are always backs who are drafted high and in the top ten that wind up floundering around and having a lackluster season.
Many of us play in deep keeper leagues and dynasty leagues and you may feel like you are stuck with or you may feel like he is a good buy-low option for you for next year. Well I like to believe that some guys are a good example of being both of those things. Often times when I get burned by a guy that I drafted early in the year I am ready to kick him to the curb and move on.
Even with Anderson‘s dismal start I saw a lot of burst in him through the playoffs and in the Super Bowl. He seemed to be running like a new man and broke several runs of 30 yards or more. He finished the regular season with a 4.7 yards per carry average and found the end zone five times. He also flashed some ability to catch the ball out of the backfield adding value for those of us in PPR leagues.
Anderson is set to enter into restricted free agency and it may serve the Broncos well to secure him and make him the feature back for next season. It seems all but obvious that Peyton Manning is setting himself up for retirement which would likely leave the offense in the hands of Brock Osweiler. I can imagine that it would be nice for him to have a guy like Anderson around to take some pressure off and be a guy who can be a nice safety valve in the flats.
When it is all said and done I like Anderson’s prospects for next season if he is still in a Denver Broncos’ uniform. Should he remain there he may wind up being a guy you can draft as a RB2 and possibly see some RB1 value from. He also would wind up being a sneaky keeper option in leagues that keep a total of 60 players. He is only 25 years old and also makes a nice player in dynasty formats. I would not go breaking the bank to add him to my roster, but I do expect a solid season for him next year and likely around 1,000 yards with ten touchdowns. He certainly has that kind of talent and could be an explosive player.
