Cam Newton will not apologize for his infamous Super Bowl 50 press conference

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton caught a lot of flack for his actions during his Super Bowl 50 post-game press conference. He came across as upset and moody and wound up storming out of his press conference, much to the disdain of media members.

Tuesday, Cam addressed the controversy and he regrets nothing about how he acted during the press conference.

Cam is absolutely right. It’s unfair to judge athletes and coaches on how they handle themselves after huge losses because every athlete handles losses differently. There have been numerous athletes and coaches who were in no mood to talk to anyone after a huge loss. Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, and LeBron James immediately come to mind. The criticism that Cam Newton has been receiving for his actions is ridiculous.

Newton did what he was contractually obligated to do. He answered questions. The Panthers quarterback even answered the same question three times. When it was asked a fourth time, that’s when Newton left the press conference. He likely heard Broncos cornerback Chris Harris bragging from the next room, as he was seated right on the other side of the divider.

All things considered, Newton should have handled himself better but it’s not an indictment on Newton’s character or maturity that he didn’t handle himself in a graceful manner following a loss. He isn’t the first athlete to have that problem and he certainly won’t be the last.

Newton has to mature a little bit more but he’ll be back in the Super Bowl soon if he keeps playing the way that he played this season.
