DeMarcus Cousins rumors: Kings ‘laying groundwork’ for future trade
By Josh Hill
If the Sacramento Kings trade DeMarcus Cousins, it won’t be until this summer.
The NBA trade deadline is just over a week away, but one name we’ve heard rumored since this past summer likely won’t be on the move. DeMarcus Cousins was heavily rumored to b on the move this summer when the whole ‘snake in the grass’ saga happened with head coach George Karl. The two seemed to kiss and make up, but the Kings are very far away from being in the clear.
Trading Cousins would have happened over the summer, if it was going to happen. But that doesn’t mean a future deal beyond the deadline isn’t being pondered at the moment by management in Sac-Town.
According to Sean Deveney of The Sporting News, the Kings might be laying the groundwork for a future trade involving Boogie, but one won’t come before the deadline this year.
If the Kings move Cousins, that would almost certainly mean the end of George Karl in Sacramento. Right now they’re trying to hold together the Spruce Goose with Scotch tape and mud — and it’s not working out so well. George Karl has already almost been fired more than a handful of times, with this most recent incident being the closest the Kings have come to pushing the red button and ejecting him.
Trading Cousins means the end of Karl in Sacramento, as the team will completely strip down and build things back up. That doesn’t mean such a thing is a good plan, but that’s almost surely what will happen if the franchise trades it’s centerpiece player away. For the time being though, this hodgepodge of a team is going to try to keep it together, but DeMarcus Cousin’s future in Sacramento is very, very far from being secure.
