2) Kevin Durant Can Become the Star of the Lakers

Over the past few seasons, there has been talk of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook not being able to share the spotlight and the ball well in Oklahoma City. While none of it has come to fruition publicly, it’s always possible there is a rift between the two that everyone is not aware of.

If that is the case, Durant may look to leave and take over a team as the star elsewhere with Westbrook under contract for one more season. That destination would be the Lakers with Kobe Bryant set to retire.

Even with a reduced version of the Black Mamba on the team, the Lakers are one of the NBA’s worst squads. They have no primary scorer who can dominate a game, leaving it up to D’Angelo Russell, Julius Randle, Roy Hibbert and Jordan Clarkson. None of them are bad players, but they either aren’t ready to be a “the man” or don’t have the potential to be. Durant would come in and become the focus of the team’s scoring, being able to take over any game with his world-class talent.

Clarkson, Russell, Randle and others would then take the “supporting cast” roles, which isn’t a bad thing. They are talented players who could be great pieces to fit around the four-time NBA scoring champion.

Being the focus of the Lakers would make Durant the unquestioned star of the franchise.
