When does spring training start for the Atlanta Braves in 2016?

The Atlanta Braves had a rough offseason as they officially began their rebuild. Atlanta shipped out various players, including shortstop Andrelton Simmons, outfielder Cameron Maybin, and starting pitcher Shelby Miller. They will have a young team in 2016 but it should be an exciting one.

Braves spring training will officially begin on Feb. 19 when pitchers and catchers will report. Atlanta’s rotation will be led by starting pitcher Julio Teheran. Teheran will most likely be their ace entering the 2016 season. Starting pitcher and free agent acquisition Bud Norris is currently penciled in as their number two starter. Starting pitchers Matt Wisler, Williams Perez, Mike Foltynewicz, Ryan Weber, Manny Banuelos, and Tyrell Jenkins will likely fight it out for the other three rotation spots. Relief pitcher Arodys Vizcaino will be the closer entering 2016. Their first practice will be on Feb. 20.

Atlanta’s position players will report on Feb. 24. First baseman Freddie Freeman will look to rebound and lead a lineup that is mostly inexperienced. Right fielder Nick Markakis, center fielder Michael Bourn, left fielder Hector Olivera, outfielder Nick Swisher, second baseman Jace Peterson, third baseman Adonis Garcia, and catcher A.J. Pierzynski are the main returning bats from last season. Shortstop Erik Aybar is among the newcomers.
