When does Dodgers spring training 2016 start?
When do the Los Angeles Dodgers report for spring training in 2016?
The Los Angeles Dodgers had an eventful offseason. It all comes to an end soon as The Blue Crew will be looking to defend their National League West Title against the San Francisco Giants and the greatly improved Arizona Diamondbacks. Despite their offseason losses that included Cy Young finalist Zack Greinke, Los Angeles will enter spring training as the favorites to win the division.
The Dodgers will officially begin their quest to defend their division title when pitchers and catchers report on Feb. 19. Starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw was a finalist for the NL Cy Young in 2015 and he will be expected to perhaps do even better in 2016 thanks to the loss of Greinke.
Manager Dave Roberts will be looking for one of the other starting pitchers Brett Anderson, Brandon McCarthy, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Kenta Maeda, or Scott Kazmir to take over Greinke’s role. Those are some mighty huge shoes to fill, however. The Boys in Blue will have their first practice on Feb. 20.
First baseman Adrian Gonzalez and the rest of the position players will report on Feb. 24. Gonzalez will lead a lineup that will not have the luxury of having both Kershaw and Greinke in their rotation. Second baseman Howie Kendrick will be returning and shortstop Corey Seager will be playing in his first full season in the majors. Outfielders Yasiel Puig and Joc Pederson will provide power and tons of homers (as well as strikeouts). Los Angeles will hold their first full squad practice on Feb. 25.
