When does the Houston Astros spring training start in 2016?

The Houston Astros will be looking to contend in 2016 after a Cinderella season in 2015. Houston was expected to contend at some point but certainly not as early as 2015. Behind a steady pitching staff and a home run or bust lineup, Houston took the Kansas City Royals to five games in the American League Divisional Series.

Astros spring training will officially get underway on Feb. 18 when their pitchers and catchers will report. Their rotation will be led by starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel. Starting pitcher Collin McHugh was a diamond in the rough for Houston in 2015 and he’ll look to build on that success in 2016. Also leading the way will be starting pitcher Lance McCullers, Jr. The rest of their rotation will be starting pitchers Doug Fister and Scott Feldman. Their first practice will be on Feb. 19.

Feb. 22 marks the date that the position players will report to spring training. Second baseman Jose Altuve will lead a lineup that should hit a lot of home runs and score a ton of runs. Outfielders George Springer, Carlos Gomez, and Colby Rasmus should form one of the most potent outfield trios in all of baseball. They will have their first full squad practice on Feb. 23.
