When will the defending National League East division champion New York Mets report for spring training in 2016?

The New York Mets will be looking to defend their NL East division title in 2016. They look like they have the parts necessary to win the division again. While the Washington Nationals and Miami Marlins have both improved, New York still have the best overall team on paper. Can they improve upon last season?

The Mets will officially begin spring training on Feb. 18 when the pitchers and catchers report. New York will rely heavily on their young rotation that carried them all the way to the World Series last season. Their rotation will be led by the potent duo of starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard and starting pitcher Matt Harvey. Starting pitcher Zach Wheeler will be back after surgery cost him his 2015 season and starting pitcher Jacob deGrom should provide valuable rotation depth. Their first official workout will be on Feb. 19.

Outfielder Yoenis Cespedes and the rest of the position players will be reporting for duty on Feb. 25. Cespedes was re-signed by New York after leading their lineup with an outrageous two month span. Third baseman David Wright will look to lead the squad as they have high expectations to overcome in 2016. They might just exceed those expectations if their rotation is as good as it looks on paper and their lineup can be productive.
