After suffering a back injury in an ATV accident, when will Tony Stewart return to NASCAR?

The end of an era will occur in NASCAR this season. After three Sprint Cup Championships and many memorable moments on the track, Tony Stewart will be racing in his final season. However, it’s not clear just when exactly Stewart will start his final season.

Stewart suffered a back injury in an ATV accident in January, which is going to cause him to miss the beginning of the season. For Stewart, that’s going to make it even tougher on him to make the chase in his final season of racing.

It’s not out of the realm of possibility that he gets their either. NASCAR has already said that they’re going to treat this situation just like they treated Kyle Busch’s leg injury last season. Bush was allowed a chance to make the chase if he could win a race and finish in the top-30 in points by the time the chase began.

Depending on Stewart’s return time, it could be easier or harder than it was for Busch. Busch didn’t return until the end of May, and even after winning four out of five races before the chase, Busch just barely got in on points.

Stewart’s also coming off a season where he didn’t win a race or make the chase. 2015 was a major struggle for him and he’d like to erase it with a good 2016. It’s going to be the last time he takes the track this season, but as of right now, it’s not clear when that will be.
