A’s acquire Khris Davis from Brewers
The Oakland A’s acquired Khris Davis from the Milwaukee Brewers.
On Saturday night, Oakland general manager Billy Beane made a deal with Milwaukee, acquiring 28-year-old outfielder Khris Davis for a pair of prospects, according to ESPN.
Davis has spent the last three seasons in Milwaukee and hit 11 home runs in 56 games during the 2013 season. He burst onto the scene the following campaign, hitting 22 homers with 69 RBI. Last year, Davis set career-highs in homers (27), but continued his penchant for a low batting average. Davis has hit .244 and .247 over the past two seasons, although his on-base percentage was respectable in 2015 at .323.
For the A’s, this deal makes plenty of sense. Davis will be relatively cheap, under team control throughout the next two seasons. Oakland needed a power bat in the middle of the order, and despite his faults, Davis is that. He will give the A’s a terrific outfield that includes Billy Burns and Josh Reddick.
It will be interesting to see how manager Bob Melvin plays Davis. Oakland loves to play platoons, and Davis is a much better hitter against right-handed pitching. Last year, Davis hit .260 against righties and only .212 versus southpaws. It’s an odd split, considering Davis is a righty.
Milwaukee got a pair of low-level prospects in the deal, including catcher Jacob Nottingham and pitcher Bubba Derby.
