Winnipeg Jets defenseman Mark Stuart will miss the next four to six weeks due to a broken hand

The Winnipeg Jets have had a rough season that currently finds them in last place in the Central Division. It has been a long and disappointing season for Winnipeg after making the playoffs last season. If they weren’t figuring to be sellers at the NHL trade deadline, they are now as the team announced that defenseman Mark Stuart will miss the next four to six weeks with a broken hand.

From NBC Sports:

"In the midst of a four-year, $10.5 million deal — he has this year and two more left at $2.625 million per — Stuart is in danger of missing the remainder of the regular season, should his rehab extend to the six-week period, or beyond."

Mark Stuart has three points and 58 penalty minutes with 92 blocked shots in 55 games this season. He averages just over 15 minutes per game but he is a staple on their penalty kill, as he averages over three minutes per night while short-handed. Losing him will be a serious loss for a team that has already had an extremely disappointing season. The stay at home defenseman has 35 shots on goal in the season.

This could mean that young defensemen Jacob Trouba and Ben Chariot will get more playing time and you can expect the Jets to replace Stuart with Paul Postma or one of their other depth defensemen. Before his broken hand, Stuart had played in every game for the Winnipeg Jets this season.
