NBA Trade Rumors: Hornets not interested in trading assets for Dwight Howard
According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Charlotte Hornets are not interested in trading assets for Dwight Howard.
The Houston Rockets have finally begun engaging teams on center Dwight Howard ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline on Thursday. While it’s going to be hard for the Rockets to move Howard, there will be teams interested in acquiring him as a rental with a chance to re-sign him or take the cap space in free agency.
On Tuesday, it was reported that the Rockets were engaging the Charlotte Hornets on a deal for Howard. While the Hornets would be a good fit for Howard, the Rockets certainly want a lot in return for their center and believe that he’s a valuable commodity with his ability to opt-out of his deal after the season.
While the two sides had discussions about Howard, Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that although Charlotte likes Howard, they don’t feel like trading assets for Howard.
The Hornets are battling for one of the final playoff spots in the Eastern Conference and made a move earlier in the day, when they acquired Courtney Lee from the Memphis Grizzlies in a three-team deal that also included the Miami Heat.
While Howard would certainly make the Hornets better, there’s no point in throwing away future assets for a two-month rental in the NBA. The Hornets are finally starting to play better with the players that they have and it’s probably a good idea for the franchise to maintain the path that they are on.
