Greg Monroe wants to play for the Pelicans, but that doesn’t mean the Bucks will trade him there.

The NBA trade deadline is just days away, and already there have been deals made that effect the rumors that we’ve heard kicked around in the last few weeks. One rumor that is seemingly gaining steam is a potential deal that would send Greg Monroe from the Milwaukee Bucks to the New Orleans Pelicans.

According to John Reid of The Times Picayune, Greg Monroe would very much prefer to play for the Pelicans over the Bucks, being that he’s a New Orleans native. That being said, such a desire from Monroe isn’t adding any incentive for Milwaukee to trade him.

If the Pelicans make a move for Monroe, they might have to give up someone like Omer Asik or Ryan Anderson to get him. But both players don’t really seem like upgrades for Milwaukee, as Asik might bring more offense to the Bucks but isn’t better than Monroe.

Anderson makes sense since he has high trade value, and the Pelicans lost a trade partner in the Pistons when they acquired Tobias Harris from the Magic. Still, Anderson in Milwaukee might crete a logjam in the frontcourt, one that would result in the Bucks probably having to trade someone they might not be wise to move.
