NBA Rumors: Pelicans, Bucks discussing Greg Monroe trade
By Josh Hill
The New Orleans Pelicans are mulling the idea of acquiring Greg Monroe from the Bucks.
The Milwaukee Bucks shocked the NBA when they came out of absolutely nowhere to snag top free agent Greg Monroe this summer. He rejected max offers from teams like the Knicks and others to play in Milwaukee, but his time there might already be coming to an end.
According to Zach Lowe from ESPN.com, the Bucks and Pelicans have had discussions about a potential Greg Monroe trade.
Such a deal wouldn’t be hard to fathom, as Milwaukee has reportedly been shopping Monroe despite even more recent reports to the contrary. All of these conflicting reports are exactly the type of smokescreen move that usually leads to a deal, and New Orleans has the pieces to make it happen.
Omer Asik has been mentioned in trades leading up to the deadline but there’s also Ryan Anderson to consider in a deal. He has been a hot name to watch since the end of 2015, and Milwaukee sining a deal for the young forward might be the move they need to start making everything work.
Then again, Anderson would create a logjam in the frontcourt for Milwaukee as they already have Jabari Parker and Giannis Antetokounmpo filling out the three and the four. Making a deal for Asik seems to almost be a downgrade from Monroe, however if he’s a better fit in the system then you can’t argue with that.
All of this is assuming the Bucks really are interested in moving Monroe. While there has been speculation to support that, until the Bucks deal him we can’t believe the hype.
