The New Orleans Saints want more of Drew Brees.

Ever since Drew Brees came to the New Orleans Saints, he’s been the face of the franchise. He led the team to a Super Bowl victory and was a part of the city as they rebuilt from Hurricane Katrina. But Brees is getting older and getting more costly, not exactly an ideal combination.

One of the ways to mitigate the cost of Brees’ deal is to extend it. The Saints need as much cap room as they can get as they try to rebuild their league-worst defense. According to Fox Sports’ Alex Marvez, the Saints are looking to extend his deal.

Brees is set to have a $30 million cap hold for the upcoming year. It’s the final year of his five year, $100 million extension. He has a base salary this upcoming season of $19.75 million with $10.85 million of that fully guarantee, and he just turned 37 this past January.

He’s thrown for over 30 touchdowns in every season since 2008. It was also the fourth time in the past five seasons that he led the NFL in passing yards.

Brees still seems to have plenty left in the tank. His touchdown passes have declined every year the past five years, however his yards per attempt has been consistent.

The Saints don’t have a youngster the can go to as the quarterback of the future, so they may as well ride Brees until the wheels fall off.
