2016 NFL offseason: New Orleans Saints’ needs
Here is everything you need to know about the 2016 offseason for the New Orleans Saints.
The New Orleans Saints finished the 2015 season with a 7-9 record and were a team stuck in the middle of the NFL. They weren’t good and they weren’t bad. They were a team that if maybe one or two things swung in their direction, they might have had a Wild Card berth.
They also dealt with a rash of injuries last season as well. While injuries are part of the game and there is certainly no excuses coming from the Saints, losing guys in critical places really hurt them and put them behind before the season could even begin.
What did keep them in games was quarterback Drew Brees. As long as the Saints have Brees lined up under center, the team feels that they have a shot to compete with any team. However, Brees isn’t getting younger and if the team is going to make one last run with him as a quarterback, they’re going to need to add pieces around him and hope that their young players take the next step.
The Saints have a big offseason ahead of them. They’ve already started making moves to clear cap and it’s clear that their could be a serious roster overturn this season. They know the clock is ticking on Brees’ window and they’re going to try to maximize their time with him.
