Dwight Howard said on Wednesday ahead of the 2016 NBA Trade Deadline that he plans to finish season with Rockets

The biggest buzz leading up to the 2016 NBA Trade Deadline out of the Houston Rockets has been that the team might be willing to move on from star center Dwight Howard. Since the initial reports that the Rockets were open to trading the polarizing big man, there have been numerous reported deals reaching discussion stages but nothing more. With less than 24 hours remaining until the deadline, Howard seems to think he’s not going anywhere.

On Wednesday as Howard and the rest of the Rockets spoke to the media, the big man was asked about a potential trade and his future in Houston, to which Dwight said that he plans to finish the season with the Rockets, per Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle:

From the discussions that have been rumored to be happening with Dwight Howard in the middle of them, this makes sense that the center would get the sense that he’s going to be staying put. The Rockets are assumedly asking for a king’s ransom in exchange for a player of Howard’s caliber, but many teams around the league might not want to give up the assets necessary to get that deal done.

With that in mind, the deadline hasn’t passed yet and things always get crazy and hectic in the hours right before the 3 p.m. ET deadline. So whether or not Dwight is correct in thinking that he’s staying in Houston or if he’s misguided still remains to be seen.
