Though the Clippers are the front-runners to land Orlando’s Channing Frye, the Cavaliers are making a late push to steal him away.

It’s a good time to be Channing Frye. The Magic big man could be playing for his fifth team in nine years as soon as Wednesday, but it’s still unclear as to which team that will be. Wherever he goes, though, he’ll be moving up to a championship contender, whether it’s the Los Angeles Clippers or the Eastern Conference-leading Cleveland Cavaliers.

Though numerous sources have suggested a deal between the Clippers and the Magic is imminent, the Cavaliers haven’t quite been ruled out yet. Cleveland general manager David Griffin is reported to have a strong relationship with Frye from their days together in Phoenix, and the move would be a win-win for both sides.

Frye would have the opportunity to realistically compete for a ring on a squad that’s probably a lock for their second straight Finals appearance, and the Cavs would bolster a mediocre bench by adding a potent scorer who can stretch opposing defenses with both his size and shooting skills.

While Frye has admitted his enthusiasm for joining the Clippers in L.A., he’d probably be just as thrilled to join LeBron James and Kyrie Irving in Cleveland. Wherever he ends up, he’s sure to enjoy the change of scenery from a winning perspective – at 23-29, the Orlando Magic currently sit at 11th place in the East.
