The Buffalo Sabres are reportedly asking for a second round pick in return for forward Jamie McGinn

The Buffalo Sabres appear that they will be huge sellers at the trade deadline for the second consecutive season. One of the most valuable trade chips could be forward Jamie McGinn. Originally thought of as a fifth wheel in the trade that sent center Ryan O’Reilly to the Sabres, McGinn has been a pleasant surprise for Buffalo this season with 25 points in 58 games this season. Buffalo, according to TSN, is seeking a second round pick for him at the trade deadline.

McGinn would provide forward depth for any contender. As Bob McKenzie notes in the video, nobody knows what the rental market is going to look like so it remains to be seen if the Sabres will have their demands met. Jamie McGinn will most likely be moved close to the NHL trade deadline on Feb. 29, or at least after guys like Jets forward Andrew Ladd set the market. McGinn has never scored 20 goals in a season in the NHL, but he has come quite close on several occasions. It wouldn’t be surprising if multiple teams would like to add that kind of skill to their lineup.

The Sabres will also likely entertain offers for defenseman Mike Weber, goaltender Chad Johnson, forward Brian Gionta, and possibly forward Tyler Ennis who has become a bit of a spare part in Buffalo.
