Pistons Trade Rumors: Detroit looking for backup to Reggie Jackson
The Pistons aren’t done trying to move at the 2016 NBA Trade Deadline as they look to find a backup for Reggie Jackson
The Detroit Pistons made the first move of NBA Trade Deadline season on Tuesday when they completed a trade with the Orlando Magic to bring Tobias Harris to the Motor City in exchange for Brandon Jennings and Ersan Ilyasova. However, the Pistons and Stan Van Gundy aren’t done trying to get deals done before Thursday’s 3 p.m. ET deadline.
The Pistons are reportedly in the market for a backup point guard, someone to come off the bench in relief of Reggie Jackson, as reported by Jake Fischer of SI:
Fischer’s report is more consistent with earlier rumblings about the Pistons rather than rumors that came about on Wednesday. An earlier report stated that Detroit was in discussions with the Memphis Grizzlies regarding a trade that would send Jackson to Memphis in exchange for Mike Conley. However, Fishcer’s report directly contradicts that, as have several other reports since.
However, the pursuits of the Pistons as it pertains to Fischer’s report are much more sensible. Detroit has to have liked what they’ve seen from Jackson for most of the year, but it’s been a mixed bag in terms of his relief coming off of the bench in regards to veteran Steve Blake. As the team looks to make a playoff push in the final one-third of the regular season, an upgrade in that regard would serve the team well. The question now is which players are out there to fulfill that need before the deadline.
