A look at the Miami Dolphins’ needs for the 2016 NFL offseason in free agency and the draft

After making an enormous splash in NFL free agency last offseason, there were high expectations for the Miami Dolphins in the 2015 season. With the additions of defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and tight end Jordan Cameron at a hefty price in free agency, things were expected to turn around for the Phins, but that ultimately wasn’t the way things played out in the land of sunshine.

The Dolphins finished the season with just a 6-10 record and in last-place in the AFC East. The season was so tumultuous in the early going that the team seemed to have quit on then head coach Joe Philbin to the point that it cost him his job. Even after Dan Campbell took over the job after the 1-3 start, the Dolphins still only went 5-7.

However, there’s renewed hope in that regard with the addition of Adam Gase, the offensive guru who Miami expects big things from right out of the gate. Gase alone isn’t going to completely turn things around for the Dolphins, though, as they have some serious issues that need to be addressed.

The three biggest areas on the Dolphins roster that will need to be addressed in the upcoming offseason fall all over the place. While the skill position players are at least solid for Miami, they need serious help on the interior of their offensive line—guards in particular. On defense, the secondary must be addressed, as should an apparent hole at inside linebacker. How they go about fixing all of these issues, though, remains to be seen.

From players that could potentially be leaving that the Dolphins might want to retain to positions that Miami needs to address either in free agency or through the draft, these are the biggest needs for the Dolphins in the 2016 offseason.
