The full list of Can-Am Duel results that set the inside and outside lanes for the Daytona 500 starting lineup.
Outside of the two drivers who earned front row positions during the Daytona 500 qualifying on Sunday, 38 other drivers needed to preform well at the Can-Am Duel to start towards the beginning of the field.
In race 1 of the Can-Am Duel, Dale Earnhardt Jr. pulled away past Danny Hamlin and never looked back to the win by leading 43 of 60 laps. On top of winning the event in back-to-back years, Earnhardt Jr.ās 17th win at Daytona comes on the 15th anniversary of his fatherās tragic crash during the Daytona 500.
The second 60-lap run of the night saw Kyle Busch win and leave untouched despite a major crash on the final lap. Ryan Newman ran into engine troubles and left the track after 31 laps, while Reed Sorenson ran out of gas with a few laps left. This means Newman will start at the back of the 40-car field when the green flag waves to begin the Great American Race on Sunday, which is disappointing since he started the second duel in seventh. Thereās a big difference between starting Daytona 500 in row 8 or row 20.
The first race set the inside lane of cars, while the second duel set the order of the outside line of cars for Sundayās big race. As a reminder Chase Elliot won the Daytona 500 pole with Matt Kenseth joining him on the front row based on Sundayās qualifying event.
