The second Can-Am Duel ended with a crash that could have major implications for the Daytona 500.

The Can-Am Duel had no major issues in either of the two events. However, on the final lap of the second duel a minor spin out led to major damages for multiple cars involving big names, including pole sitter Matt Kenseth.

Unlike in the Sprint Unlimited race, the drivers were using their Daytona 500 cars meaning that many of the drivers involved in the wreck will have a lot of repairing to complete or else they will be forced to their back-up cars and the back of the field.

The crash wasn’t really caused by anyone per se other than Jimmie Johnson getting a tad loose, but the last lap incident caused a lot of damage to some of the bigger drivers’ cars. This was the first true trouble of the second Can-Am Duel event after Reed Sorenson almost forced a big jam on the track after running out of gas with a few laps to go.

It’s unclear the extent of all the damage and which drivers will be forced to their back-up cars, but all of it will be made clear during the Daytona 500 practice sessions on Friday and Saturday. Being forced to a new car is a major strategy change for those involved and not involved.

For those sent to the back of the pack, they will now need to get a feel of their other car and figure out how to get to the front, while others end up moving up due to those sent to the back of the pack. If this is any indication, Sunday’s race will bring many crashes and emotional moments with it.
