Dale Earnhardt Jr. paid tribute to his dad, Dale Earnhardt Sr., by tweeting out a photo of him on the anniversary of his death.

On February 18, 2001, Dale Earnhardt Sr. tragically passed away after a crash at the Daytona 500. It’s one of the darkest days in sports history and one of the greatest, if not the greatest, to ever get behind the wheel of a car passed away doing what he loved most.

Every year at Daytona, everyone always pays to tribute to Earnhardt Sr. and his son, Dale Earnhardt Jr., has won the Daytona 500 since then and has always been there to pay tribute to his dad and everything that he had done for him.

With the Daytona 500 taking place this week and Earnhardt Jr. the favorite to win the race, he decided to pay tribute to his dad on Twitter, with an awesome “Throwback Thursday” photo.

Earnhardt Sr. had one of the most famous mustaches in sports and he ran Daytona like no one else could year after year. He’s the most popular driver in the history of stock-car racing and even after his passing, his fans still fill the track and let everyone know who the greatest of all time was.

There weren’t as many great father-and-son bonds like Earnhardt Sr. and Earnhardt Jr., but the two have created memories in a sport that will last forever.
