The Packers‘ running backs coach used some interesting words to describe Eddie Lacy’s motivation for the offseason.
The Green Bay Packers will look to get players healthy and hopefully bolster their roster in the offseason, as they try to get back in contention for a Lombardi Trophy in 2016. One of the questions regarding Green Bay is the weight of Eddie Lacy.
Lacy really let himself go last season and it led to reduced time and head coach Mike McCarthy reaching his limit with him. Simply put, Lacy is running out of time to get in shape and this season could be his last chance in Green Bay, if he doesn’t get in shape.
Thus far, it seems like Lacy has been working hard to get into shape and prove that he can be their running back going forward. While discussing Lacy’s offseason, Speaking to the Green Bay Post-Gazette, the Packers’ new running backs coach Ben Sirmans used an interesting way to describe Lacy’s motivation to get better in the offseason.
"“He seems like a great person. You can tell and get the sense that he’s very hungry this year to really get ready to get after it. I spent a lot of time talking about myself because he has to feel comfortable with me as his head coach, and then from that giving him a chance to talk and telling him a little bit about his background and those things. So it was a pretty good conversation.”"
Hungry isn’t exactly the best word to use to describe Lacy’s offseason, especially when he’s battling weight issues. Still, the point of the story is that Lacy wants to improve himself and prove that he is the running back of the future in Green Bay.
The offense took a step back last season and while part of that was because of injuries, not having Lacy at the top of his game hurt the Packers. If he really is committed to improving himself this offseason, then hungry might be the right word after all and become a positive term associated with him. He’ll have to prove that, however.
