The Houston Rockets are still trying to make a move at the NBA Trade Deadline, assessing the value of Patrick Beverley

The Houston Rockets have been ridiculously active in the days leading up to the 2016 NBA Trade Deadline, looking to move big names like Ty Lawson and Dwight Howard. After buzz about both Lawson and Howard seemingly fizzled out, though, the Rockets then moved Donatas Motiejunas and Marcus Thornton essentially for a first-round pick. Now the Rockets are reportedly gauging interest in point guard Patrick Beverley.

According to a report from Brian Windhorst of ESPN, the Rockets have been making calls around the NBA to check the value of Beverley and see what they could potentially get for him in a trade:

That’s certainly an interesting development out of Houston considering that, after trade talks regarding Lawson died down, that the Rocket would likely waive Lawson soon after the trade deadline. If they were to trade Beverley, that would seemingly be far less likely unless they were able to bring in an adequate replacement.

More curious than just the Lawson aspect of things in Houston, though, is the fact that trading Beverley would seemingly not fix any of their issues. The Rockets have struggled mightily in regards to defense and effort this season, the cause of the bulk of their problems. However, Beverley has largely been the guy that’s been the exception to that rule in Houston this season, which would make trading him away all the more curious.

With just over an hour remaining until the deadline, who knows what’s going to happen with the Rockets who now have a thousand balls in the air. What we can say, though, is that trading Beverley would likely be one of the worst things that they could do.
