Saint-Etienne are one of the many Ligue 1 teams that would be fighting for top spot if PSG didn’t exist. Instead, it is a race for second, and the Greens are right in the thick of it, six points behind Monaco. They did not make the Europa League group stages look easy, as they sneaked in behind Lazio.
However, that all means nothing as they welcome FC Basel to Stade Geoffroy-Guichard. The French club will be hoping to continue their aerial dominance, as it has been the main avenue with which they have been securing their goals this domestic campaign. Defenders Loic Perrin and Moustapha Bayal Sall have three goals each, good for a tie for second on the team. It is easy to see where they find their success.

FC Basel is always one of the most underrated threats in football. It was not all that long ago that they were going toe-to-toe with Chelsea. They are the PSG’s of the Swiss Super League, already out to a 15 point lead after 20 matches. They will be banking on the exploits of young striker phenom Breel Embolo, who has scored two goals in the Europa League campaign thus far into the year.
Basel are used to winning and they will be eyeing up a berth in the Europa League Round of 16. However, it is a tough, composed defense that they are coming up against in Saint-Etienne so they know it will not be easy.
