Shakhtar Donetsk and FC Schalke are two very strong clubs in the Europa league and they will be hoping for a prolonged run. Here’s how to watch.

Two more Europa League heavyweights will be squaring off, although the host has gotten considerably lighter since January. With the departure of Alex Teixeira to China, the Ukrainian outfit have lost their primary attacker and creator. He had been a foundation to build the offense off of, as his versatility saw him equally effective in many, if not all, forward positions.

Donetsk was dumped out of the Champions League, having had unfortunately drawn the same group as PSG and Real Madrid.

They will not find the Europa League any easier. Schalke had a shoddy previous year but they are a club that expects to be in the Champions League.

Schalke are fighting back up the Bundesliga table and currently find themselves fifth in the table. They may have lost Julian Draxler in the summer, but the German side has a knack for churning out young German prospects and they have plenty more. Leroy Sane has been stealing headlines as one of the prime German prospects to rise to the first team.

Another added boost is the recent contract extension of Schalke captain Benedikt Howedes, who will be hoping to captain his side to a Europa League title. His influence at the back has garnered the attention of many a suitor

Schalke have been relying on a variety of sources, although it is veteran forward Klaas-Jan Huntelaar that leads the team but he is closely followed by youngsters like Sane, Geis, Meyer.
