Kirk Hinrich was selected 7th overall in one of the most top heavy drafts of all time. And, while you’re sure to find players with more points, rebounds and assists taken in that draft class (LeBron James comes to mind), you certainly won’t find anyone grittier.

When Hinrich was traded away from Chicago to make cap room, Bulls fans were abound with hope. The team had space for two max free agents! Life was good!

Of course, the only max free agent that came to Chicago was Carlos Boozer. And then, when Hinrich re-signed with Chicago, it was in part to help replace an injured Derrick Rose, who wound up missing the entire 2012-13 season. And that injury opened up Bulls fans’ eyes to exactly how unfair the world of the NBA is.

And now, Hinrich leaves a team with a lot more questions than answers. So, it’s as if a whole generation of Bulls fans went through the entire gamut of emotions with Hinrich on the team. Heck, he’s third all time in franchise games played, behind Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen!

Here is a video tribute to Captain Kirk. May he find happiness in Atlanta.
