With the Boston Celtics buying out David Lee, these are the five destinations that would be perfect for him.

Buyout season in the NBA has officially begun. With the trade season having passed, teams will begin buying out the contracts of certain players that they were not able to successfully move at the trade deadline. It’s usually bottom dwellers that buy out players, but on occasion, good teams will buy out players if they have plenty of depth in an area.

The Boston Celtics acquired David Lee in the offseason and set themselves up nicely for cap space in free agency by buying him out and removing the $23 million cap hold that he would have had on the roster.

Now the Celtics have plenty of flexibility going forward to go along with their tremendous assets and will certainly be primed to make big moves.

While the Celtics clearly have a plan going forward, so should Lee, as he is now free to jump on with any contender provided that he passes through waivers. With the size of his contract remaining, Lee should pass through easily and then he will be able to sign with anyone for the minimum.

With plenty of playoff teams sorely in need of big man depth, Lee will have his fair share of suitors that are hot after him once he passes through waivers. He can still provide solid minutes for a team in need of minutes off the bench and he also brings championship experience with him.

He is generally considered a great teammate and will be a great addition for the stretch run for any team that signs him. With Lee set to be able to go wherever he wants, these are the five destinations that would be perfect for him.
