No. 20 Duke Blue Devils vs No. 18 Louisville Cardinals

Winning the national title a year ago was huge for Coach K and the Duke program since they had been building for that for years. However, Tyus Jones, Justise Winslow and Jahlil Okafor all left after just one season on campus, emptying the cupboard for the 2015-16 version of the Blue Devils. After dropping out of the Top 25, Duke has won five straight games.

During that five-game win streak, the Blue Devils have won three straight against ranked opponents. Grayson Allen has been a player of the year candidate as a sophomore, scoring 20.7 points while shooting 42 percent from three-point range. Freshman Brandon Ingram is second on the team with 17.3 points per game.

Unfortunately for the Louisville Cardinals, it doesn’t matter how strong they finish the 2015-16 regular season and ACC Tournament, they self-imposed a postseason ban for instances that were discovered over the summer. That has to be tough on a team that has gone 20-6 to start the year, looking like a dark-horse Final Four contender.

The news was especially tough on the two transfer players who lead the team in scoring: Damion Lee and Trey Lewis. Lee is putting up 16.5 points per game while Lewis is second on the team with 12.3 points per contest. Both decided to transfer from smaller schools into Rick Pitino’s program for their senior season only to be penalized for something they didn’t do.
