After being waived, these are the five teams that should sign center Anderson Varejao.

The post NBA Trade Deadline market is home to scraps, but it occasionally will have some intriguing pieces available. Teams are looking for players that can help them in the stretch run and provide valuable minutes in a pinch if possible. One of those players that is now available is Anderson Varejao.

Varejao barely played many minutes for the Cavaliers the last few seasons, but that doesn’t mean he can’t still be a solid option for a team that could use more depth up front. After the Cavaliers traded Varejao at the deadline, he was waived by the Portland Trail Blazers.

With Varejao set to pass through waivers in most likelihood, it means teams will jump all over the opportunity to sign him to the veteran minimum. Those teams are likely to be contending teams and he’s already being linked to the top teams in the league.

Teams know what they’re getting in a guy like Varejao. Not very much offensive production will be had, but he can grab rebounds and use his size to be somewhat of a post presence. He isn’t being brought in to be the answer at center. He’s being brought in to stand tall in the post and provide rest while holding down the interior.

That’s a valuable commodity this time of year and Varejao has fresh legs having not played much this season. Here are the five teams that should look to sign him.
