Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks were rumored to be in line for a major shake-up in the days leading up to the 2016 NBA Trade Deadline. With several big names from around the league circulating as potential trade candidates, two of those names were from the Hawks in point guard Jeff Teague and impending free agent Al Horford.

However, the only deal Atlanta ended up making ahead of the trade deadline was a deal with the Utah Jazz that sent little-used point guard Shelvin Mack out west in exchange for a second-round pick. That trade doesn’t exactly move the needle for either team, but that’s actually a good thing for the Hawks.

I was never a fan of moving either Horford or Teague, because the Hawks seemed misguided in regards to their reasoning behind the potential deals. Fear of losing a player in free agency (Horford) or betting on a largely unproven and still developing Dennis Schroder isn’t a reason to jump the gun and make a panic trade. Subsequently, I like that the Hawks stayed put and are ultimately going to ride it out with the core that they have.
