Boston Celtics

There’s one thing that you can definitively say about the Boston Celtics at the 2016 NBA Trade Deadline: Danny Ainge and company were swinging for the fences. They were in pursuit of players like Dwight Howard and Kevin Love, and virtually anyone with a great deal of value in exchange for their collection of assets (like the 2016 Brooklyn Nets first-round pick).

However, the Celtics ultimately failed to land any of their top targets, which is disappointing to a certain degree. Though it is impressive that Ainge showed restraint considering the potential for a blockbuster. Only further complicating things is that the Celtics were also unable to do the one thing that they probably needed to do at the deadline in trading David Lee’s expiring contract.

In the end, the Celtics are going to keep all of their assets and keep moving forward, which means that they are likely going to bring the noise this offseason in regards to some sort of major trade. When you look at what they did at the deadline through that lens, it’s hard to say that they made a poor decision by not pushing through any major deals.
