Cleveland Cavaliers

Not that this was ever a heavily guarded secret, but the Cleveland Cavaliers are trying to win an NBA Championship and are trying to do it now. The Cavs were on the phones for virtually the entire week leading up to the 2016 NBA Trade Deadline with some big names being heavily involved. However, what they ultimately wound up doing was better than any blockbuster that they could’ve pulled off.

That potential blockbuster was, of course, any trade that would’ve involved Kevin Love. The Celtics and several other teams were reportedly in desperate pursuit of Love leading, and the Cavs ultimately stuck to their guns that they weren’t going to move him. Instead, Cleveland was able to move Anderson Varejao’s contract for the price of their 2018 first-round pick; in turn they got a highly usable frontcourt rotation player in Channing Frye.

The Frye signing looks great for the Cavs when you really break it down. He really gives them the veteran presence on both ends of the court that will help them stretch the floor while not wholly sacrificing rebounding. That’s important when you think about things like how Cleveland matches up with Golden State.
