Want to know where you’re moving next?

There’s an app for that, provided you’re an NBA player.

Randy Foye was traded from the Denver Nuggets to the Oklahoma City Thunder at the league’s trade deadline for D.J. Augustin, Steve Novak and two second-round picks. In most cases, he would have been informed of the move by the Nuggets or his agent. But this is not most cases.

Foye learned about the trade thanks to a notification from the NBA’s app:

This actually isn’t unprecedented. Drew Gooden told yours truly only last season that he’s heard “horror stories” about players finding out they’ve been traded while watching TV at the airport. That has to be uncomfortable and awkward.

Clearly, general managers need to start at least texting incumbent players about their fates or something. For Foye’s sake, hopefully he received the notification in private rather than in public.

But hey, it isn’t all bad. Foye went from the lottery-bound Nuggets to the title-contending Thunder. There are worse things in life.

Finding out you’ve been traded to the Sacramento Kings, for instance.
