Report: Dallas Mavericks to sign David Lee
By Josh Hill
The Dallas Mavericks are set to sign David Lee to a $2.1M exception.
David Lee isn’t the All-Star he used to be, but he still has enough left in the tank to help a contending team perhaps reach the next level. We saw him play a big role in the Golden State Warriors winning the NBA Finals last year, and while he hasn’t been a part of their rousing success this season, his mark was indeed left.
Boston wasn’t able to cull that sort of talent from Lee, but they have opened up the possibility for someone else to do so. It appears that team will be the Dallas Mavericks.
According to Shams Charania, the Mavs are going to use their room exception of $2.1 million to sign Lee as soon as he clears waivers.
This isn’t at all surprising, as the Mavericks were rumored to be strong frontrunners to sign Lee almost as soon as he was waived by Boston. Dallas signing Lee doesn’t immediately put them over the top, but it no doubt helps them become even more convincing contenders in the West.
Lee isn’t the rim protector that the Mavericks have desperately needed for years, but he’s a threat that will make them more interesting in the postseason than they were already shaping up to be.
