The New York Islanders are reportedly trying to find a way to modify their lease or severe ties altogether with Barclays Center

The New York Islanders have a new home this season in the Barclays Center. It was a long anticipated move for New York and one that was expected to be a huge help to the team and its fans. That has not been the case. In fact, the team might already be looking for a way out of their lease with the arena.

The lease that the two sides signed has an opt-out after four years which the hockey team could easily invoke. While attendance has risen for the Isles in their new Brooklyn home, complaints about the views from their seats and their expensive ticket prices. Players have noted that the locker rooms were clearly built for basketball players.

“You can tell it’s almost made for basketball and not really for hockey, but I like it,” Washington Capitals goaltender Philipp Grubauer said, via the Washington Post. “When you look in the shower, the shower head is like [way] up there.”

The Capitals also noted that the Isles’ new home has a slightly off-center scoreboard. However, Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark has denied the report.

“We are enjoying the first year of hockey in Brooklyn,” Yormark said, via the New York Post. “We are looking forward to a heated playoff run and a long future and partnership with the Islanders.”
