After North Carolina beat Miami, head coach Roy Williams ripped into Doug Gottlieb for insinuating that he was retiring.

Roy Williams doesn’t like anyone reporting or speculating that he might be retiring anytime soon. The legendary North Carolina Tar Heels coach is happy with his job and with where his program is currently at.

After the Tar Heels beat the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday, Williams went all in on Doug Gottlieb, who has said that some in basketball think Williams could retire after this season with all of his health issues. Gottlieb even said before the game that he believes that Williams will step down after the season and that Hubert Davis will take over the prized program.

Well that really set Williams off.

While Williams isn’t happy at all with the things Gottlieb has said, it’s clear that he still likes the guy and the famous pants incident has stuck with him forever. While Williams was ripping Gottlieb for his speculation and inability to put his pants on correctly, Gottlieb clarified what he said and even admitted that Williams isn’t wrong about the pants comment.

Williams is a legendary coach and is going to go out when he is good and ready. That’s not to say that Gottlieb is wrong, but Williams doesn’t want it turning into some giant ordeal that overshadows what his team is trying to accomplish out on the court and that’s bringing home another National Championship to Chapel Hill.

So don’t speculate about the future of Williams and put your pants on right. That’s the lesson being told here.
