According to a report, the San Antonio Spurs are interested in recently waived center Anderson Varejao.
Now that the NBA Trade Deadline is over, teams have until March 1 to add players to the roster that would be deadline eligible. Once the deadline is finished, plenty of teams begin waiving players they acquired in deals or buying out contracts.
On Thursday, center Anderson Varejao was acquired by the Portland Trail Blazers from the Cleveland Cavaliers and then was waived afterward. With plenty of teams in need of center depth and a solid rotational players like Varejao being made available, he was linked to multiple teams right away.
One team that appears to have interest in the big center is the San Antonio Spurs. According to Marc Stein, the Spurs, Oklahoma City Thunder and Golden State Warriors are all showing interest in adding the big man.
With the stretch run of the season coming up and the Spurs needing more bodies as they continue to rest guys, adding another piece like Varejao would be a great move. If he can provide solid minutes, then it would be an even bigger coup for the Spurs.
The Spurs already have a tremendous amount of size on the roster and they would be acquiring another player with plenty of experience. It will be interesting to see if they can pry him away from the other contenders, but with how well the Spurs are playing and their chances of competing for a championship this season, it would be hard Varejao to turn them or any contender down.
