Golden State Warriors add some frontcourt depth with Anderson Varejao
They may not have made a move at the trade deadline, but that doesn’t mean they can’t add to their squad. The best team in the NBA just got a little deeper in their front court. After being dealt by the Cleveland Cavaliers and bought out by the Portland Trail Blazers, Anderson Varejao has found himself a new home.
ESPN sources say Anderson Varejao has indeed finalized his expected deal with Golden State at the veteran minimum for the rest of the season

The Warriors are at 15 players on their roster, so an additional move will have to be made in order to officially place him on the roster.
Varejao hasn’t had that much playing time for the Cavs this season. In only 31 games, he averaged 10 minutes per game, posting 2.6 ppg and 2.9 rebounds per game.
The Warriors could use some additional depth up front. Andrew Bogut has an Achilles injury and has an injury prone past. Festus Ezeli underwent arthroscopic knee surgery.
Varejao can be a rim protector for the Warriors when Bogut sits on the bench, that way Draymond Green doesn’t have to play at the five so much.
The San Antonio Spurs, Oklahoma City Thunder and Atlanta Hawks all had interest in the Brazilian center, but Varejao chooses to join his countryman Leandro Barbosa in the Bay Area.
Is Varejao what he once was? No, but the Warriors get to add some veteran frontcourt depth for nothing and that’s a good move.
