Waiver Wire Week 17

We are now coming to a critical part of the head to head fantasy basketball season. This is the waiver wire week 17 article and lots of things have happened and even more are about to happen to shuffle rotations in the NBA. If you want to compete you are going to need to keep up with your league and hit the waiver wire hard and effectively.

We are past the All-Star Break and the trade deadline has passed us by. Now we will have some guys who can get cut and sign with competitive teams thus changing around rotations for teams. Although there were not very many ground shaking trades for the NBA there were some that will shake up some rotation and we will try to cover a few guys who are getting enough minutes to make a dent in standard and deep fantasy leagues.

I usually like to outline guys that are owned is less than 50% of ESPN.com leagues and may mention a few that are higher ownership rates that I found floating around on some of my leagues.

Norris Cole – Cole has been pretty solid in replacement duties for Tyreke Evans. In case you have been living under a rock for some time, Evans has been deemed out for the season making Cole a great addition for your fantasy basketball team.

Brandon Jennings – Jennings was recently traded to the Orlando Magic and has already been receiving more minutes than the incumbant Elfrid Payton. For now it looks like Jennings may be the guy to own for point guard duties down in Orlando.

Bobby Portis – Portis is playing really well as of late and seems to be carving out a nice role in the Bulls rotation. He has shown out and been really solid in his last six contests scoring two double-doubles. He has scored in double figures in four of those contests and has averaged 7.3 rebounds over his last six.

Shelvin Mack – Mack debuted well in his first game with his new team the Utah Jazz. Mack was traded to the Jazz from the Hawks and 16 points, six assists, three rebounds and a block in his first game. The Jazz have been really disgruntled with their current set of  point guards so Mack could wind up the big winner from a fantasy perspective from the trade deadline.

Maurice Harkless – Harkless has played pretty well in is last five games. He has scored consistently in double figures in each of those games and has rebounded well with a 7.2 rebounds per game average. He is also averaging over a steal a game through that span as well.
