One of the most important free agents for the Cleveland Browns this offseason is their 26-year-old wide receiver, Travis Benjamin.

The Browns have been in discussions with Benjamin about a possible new deal before he hits free agency in a few weeks, but recently those talks have broken down.

Cleveland does not have a lot of talent on the offensive side of the ball, as even with inconsistent play at the quarterback position last season, Benjamin was able to have a career-year.

In 2015, Benjamin totaled career-highs with 68 receptions, 966 receiving yards, and five receiving touchdowns. It was a big breakout year for Benjamin, who emerged as more than just a home run threat at wide receiver.

A few days ago, indications were that a deal was close for Benjamin and the Browns, but his agent now says that the wide receiver will be testing the market.

Benjamin’s importance to the Browns this offseason is very high, as he was second on the team in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns, all behind tight end Gary Barnidge.

This seems like it could be a ploy by Benjamin’s camp to get a better deal for him, and with 15 days to negotiate before free agency, the possibility of Benjamin signing with the Browns is still certainly good.

If Benjamin does indeed hit free agency, he will be an attractive target for many teams, as he is young, and has proven to be a solid wide receiver even in a poor passing offense.

There is still a lot of time for both sides to get something done, but as of now, Benjamin will be testing the market.
